The Unraveling - It Creeps
In the thick woods surrounding the abandoned resort on The Forgotten Isle, something ominous begins to stir...
A massive creature emerges from the ground, following a series of tremors. Its four-petaled chitinous head sports eight different eyes, each with multiple pupils, set around a mouth with sharp fangs. Its body is lined with iridescent blue-green scales that glimmer brightly under the sun's rays,
Its head is lined with strange appendages that thrash about and curl outward, tipped with barbed claws; a mess of vines dangle down from these four appendages. Its strange sharp claws help drag itself along, clawing and scrambling over dirt and undergrowth as it travels toward the edge of the island....
Danger is imminent! Posting in this thread can cause minor or moderate injuries, up to minor/moderate maims, or other bad, temporary effects to characters. Only one character per player; characters involved in the other worm fight threads cannot attend.
A big commotion sent the island birds screeching and taking to the skies. Star had come here to investigate this island and all of its strange wonders. The various buildings were terribly interesting and she'd found many neat items that she would consider taking with her if she was a collector and had a pack. Alas...
After a while of exploring the island compound and it's vast array of different rooms, Star had become hungry. Fast as she was, it was an easy feat to catch one of the island rabbits. It was as the striped fae was going to find a place to settle down and eat that she saw the odd, hulking worm dragging itself across the sandy island. Was it really a worm?
Ears tilted backwards for a moment blue eyes locked on the creature before Starchild adopted a submissive stance. This big thing could massacre her easily. She offered the freshly killed rabbit, there would always be more, and gingerly stepped backwards, putting distance between herself and the creature, but keeping her gaze upon it.
She is always accompanied by a peregrine falcon named Merlin and a very nasty Tasmanian devil named Dundee who will bite you.
Laniatus had begun his trek to find his father not long ago. Their birds had been used for communication thus far, but Lani's stupid birds had flown away. Off to do whatever crap birds did when they abandoned their master. He knew eventually they would find their way back to him, but for now, he was companionless and trying to find his father. Lani's muscular form moved confidently as he searched a new island, he didn't believe his father to be hiding away here but he had been curious nonetheless. His nares widened as he caught the scent of something peculiar. He snuck up behind what was causing the scent, and that's when he saw the odd-looking creature. His eyebrows furrowed at the sight of the green mass, and he wondered if these things were normal here. And if they were why had his father not told him of this? Either way, he is sneaking up behind it, a silent snarl on his face. He looks at the odd creature, noting the odd mix of traits. He decided to launch himself at its back was the best course of action yes. So he did just that, aiming to dig sharp canines into its back neck?? He wasn't quite sure what the hell this thing's body parts were called, but what he did know was he would try to stay well out of the way of its claws. They reminded him of a scorpion, and if they proved to be lethal, he would NOT like to be the one to find out. However, if they could prove useful to his father, maybe after this thing was dead and gone he would take one to him. Not to make his father proud of him no, but simply because any use he could be for Set was better for him. Snapping free from his thoughts, he would attempt to anchor himself into the creature's back with his nails. And then no matter if he had or hadn't gotten his original grip, he would attempt to tear through its scales. Eager to spread its gore along the forest floor and himself. |
A look to his new companion and Atreyu before he moved from their room. Massive paws race, churning with his speed. A narrowing of his gaze. And then with less speed then Vayne he is upon the scene. A gaze cast upon the worm. A magnificent beast by all standards. the fae he had seen offering it a rabbit. His quills stood and he locked his gaze on Vayne before back to the worm. The zealot in him told him it was a sign, a test from their gods. But what for? "Stay vigilant Vayne! Its a sign from Kiska..." Just as he spoke another came and was attacking it! Shit! The idiot.
A snarl rose from the zealot. "Do not! It is a sign from the gods! You will anger them!" His eyes narrowed but he expected his demigod's might would stop the other. A lash of his tail as he stood back, watching and waiting. Only the gods could make suh a being and he wouldn't be destroying their creation if he wasn't ordered to. He moved to stand beside Vayne and placed himself between the worm and him.

Cerberus had come to his old home in a scouting mission for his new home. And the memories it brought back walking along the shores, in the old common areas that were mostly abandoned now. Cerberus seemed to be going down some dark hole as he aged, but it had nothing to do with aging really. Everyone had their walk in life, he just felt like his was drastically slowing down and well, he wasn't getting any younger.
A slight foreign commotion he could hear rattling around the old resort of the island, and it took him some time to pin point through the vines and buildings the creature beyond. He turned to face the sight from far away, a baffled squint as he tried to make out what he was seeing. Something he had never encountered before. It was easier to turn and run, he wasn't much the curious type especially for something that seemed to be such an illusion. But he saw some other wolves running around in the area as the grassy beast started to tussle around through the grounds and well, he was quite the hero wasn't he. Always thinking of others.
Sprinting into the action, Cerberus stopped a fair distance away from the creature, definitely not jumping in the fray at first glance. Some of these idiots however... He did at least put himself between the worm and the small woman who was backing away from the scene. A young one being a little more logical by watching and waiting, or at least keeping himself out of danger's way. And then an older male that flew in looking for the fight. The creature would surely be angry now Cerb thought, but he still kept his defensive stance, ready to move out of the way had the worm thrashed around. He was willing to jump into the fight when it was necessary, but right now he needed more information on how this creature behaved.
Shit was happening all over the place, however nothing had happened too close to the woods. Until now. With intentions to claim the island in the future, Widow often scouted it and made sure she knew where every rock and leaf laid. Today was no different, but the last time she had been here had been long before she fell morbidly pregnant. Unable to journey from Austers mainland to the island without surely sinking, now that her pups were old enough to venture outside the den and kept a close eye on by the others, Widow treated today as if nothing had changed, as if there wasn't weird shit happening all around.
However, it was clear that many things changed. Immediately she noticed the fresh scents and tracks of others, eagerly following them to see what had brought so many here all of a sudden. Maybe she had missed out on something, but if something was happening would her birds not have already told her? They flew above her today, however something was clearly off. They circled and cawed ahead of her, sounded panicked and questioning. Widow quickened the pace until she saw the gathering of others... and something dragging itself along the ground.
What the fuck was that thing?
Widow briefly kept her distance, watching, wondering what the actual fuck. For a moment she considered getting no closer, she had children after all... but those children were the exact reason she broke the distance between herself and the crowd. Others had already begun to attack and Widow was no different. Approaching from the side, she reached to sink fangs into the side of the creature and hoped to tear open a gash while watching for those extra appendages in case one came at her.

Prowling through the dense underbrush with intent and disgruntlement, he doesn’t slow until the creature comes into view. Pulling up short, Idris eyes the worm… beetle… monster from the shadows. His sensitive eyes blink against the bright shafts of light that peek down from the canopy. The beast was heading somewhere from how it clawed at the ground and trunks as if needing assistance to move.
Pale eyes look and notice that it is heading toward the shore. Why? Concern lances through him. Would the water do something terrible to this awoken monstrosity? Idris moves his gaze back to the creature, fighting to roll his eyes at the two wolves stupid enough to take on such a behemoth. Did they have a death wish? Clearly.
Looking at the rest of the group, he watches. They all appear too frightened to do anything, but something had to be done. Quickly slinking toward the two Judilan band members and then toward the rustic and obsidian wolf standing near the ivory and obsidian girl, Idris hovers close enough to speak. “We need to stop it from making it to wherever it is headed,” his deep tenor breaks the stare of silent awe.
“If we all stand before the beast, without infuriating it, maybe we can corral it somewhere else,” Idris suggests, but doesn’t finish. Where that somewhere else is, he doesn’t know yet, but maybe one of them has an idea. Where they’re on board or not, the lanky wolf moves to stand before the beast with just enough room that the weird looking tendrils shouldn’t at least flay him alive. Setting a defensive stance, he hopes to deter the beast from its original path.

"Try not to make any moves against it unless you have to defend yourself. These others are far too rash." Atreyu said to both Vayne and Azriel, holographic eyes flitting to one of the strangers who suggested they should corral it. That may not be such a bad idea, and with a motion to her family, Atreyu moved to stand beside the pale wolf with a nod. "How do you suppose we stop it should it decide to go through us?" Despite the urgency in her voice, Atreyu was surprisingly calm in the face of this giant, nosing through her satchel until she found her blade. She armed herself and faced the monster, spotted tail lashing behind her, looking first to the stranger then to Vayne and Azriel. They couldn't let the worm get to the water, something told her that would not end well for anyone.

Austerian spring was here, and Spriggan was fully enjoying the warming weather. Her plants were as well, the mushrooms that grew out of her body were throwing out new fruits as much as the moss on her back was blooming new flowers. Even her ferns had little sprigs on them. Everything was coming back to life.
Still, the sun was an odd red darkness over the sky, and if it would just clear and bring back the brilliant sky she knew the land would be twice as bountiful. She sighed before the commotion hit her. The little donkey carried her closer to where there were wolves gathering and Spriggan’s mouth fell open. The massive plant before them was moving She wasn’t the only creature that was (practically) a sentient plant!
The trees cover the sun, lengthening shadows that the trees throw upon the ground and obscure the red sun that hangs in the spring sky. The rumbling had drawn him here, to where the plant creature appears, long tendrils of vine ending in claws that pull the massive creature along the ground and Sorcerer pauses for a moment, watching the other wolves that have already gathered to see what they do.
Some leap forward, attacking the beast while others seem struck dumb at the mere sight of it and another… declares it sign from the gods. A sneer tugs at his lips for the monochrome man is not been one to believe in gods… or, at least, gods that sent these abominations to walk among them. Eyes lock on the plant beast, knowing it can do damage to anyone with the sharp teeth and hooked claws and he decides that he has strike first.
Paws move, pushing Sore through the forest as quietly as a whisper and he appears behind the plant, rushing up and attempting to sink his teeth into the strange and beautiful iridescent scales that line its body.

For a girl that doesn't spend much time outside the bamboo, she wasn't going to be so left behind by her siblings. They were going on an adventure, and it wouldn't be without her. Hanaryō stalked her way north, following the tremors and shifting scent trails. Crossing the water, though it threatens to throw her entirely off course. When the beast finally comes into focus, Ryō's gaze is intense. Calculating. Watching the way the strange, fleshy appendages seem to work in time with each other. "Nasty." Though Hinata didn't waste any time, and Ryō wouldn't let her sister have all the fun. Hot on the pale girl's heels, Hanaryō launches herself at the opposite side of the beast. Snapping and snarling, as she seeks purchase in the fleshy monster. |

Morticia had gotten distracted from heading home. When the skies became red and eerie, the skeletal marked fae had grown curious about the cause. She would return to her family, just not yet. The woman’s wanderings lead her into Auster. Tremors shook the earth every so often, a reminder that something was stirring beneath the surface. The scents of other wolves having been drawn this way was what initially brought Morticia to the island. It was an eerie place, with looming structures she’d never seen before. Trailing after others, she startled when another violent tremor shook the earth and birds were sent into the skies. She’d see the worm rise from a distance, her eyes widening. At a time where curiosity might not have been a good thing, Morticia charged in the direction of the creature. Others had already gathered, seeming to have different views on the beast that had risen. Morticia stood along the edge of them all, ears swiveled toward the worm. It was when she saw Widow, a wolf she’d looked up to as family attacking the worm that she made her decision. With a growl, Mortica leapt into action. “Morticia help Widow!” She was approaching blindly, recklessly. Unaware just how dangerous this foe might be as she lunged and attempted to sink her fangs into one of the vine-like appendages. |
Blood dripped down from her chin, pouring hot and fast around her as she lay beneath her attacker. She felt his last breath gurgle out from his mouth while her saber fangs remained latched around his throat. Finally… fucking finally. But she couldn't savor the moment for long. She'd managed to get her abductors separated long enough to deal with one but the others would be along any moment.
Pooling her strength she tossed the wretch off her and got to her feet, bolting along the shore line as fast as she could. It didn't take much to know she'd been dragged all the way back into Auster. So fucking close to home, she'd braved the prominence only to be recaptured at waterfall peak.
Eager to get not only distance but an obstacle between herself and the remaining abductors she leapt into the ocean, swimming for the Forgotten Isle. When she arrived she collapsed on the beach, panting, trying to formulate a plan. If she could by enough time she could recover here for a few days then make her plan to head back north. First she needed to get to somewhere more secluded.
As Gossamer trudged into the thick forests the ground started to shake. What was that? Was it another spire? Searching cautiously through the foliage she discovered not a spire but a massive creature, a worm bearing many plant-like features, and eight glossy eyes. Fuck! A gathering of wolves were already present and Gossamer wrestled with what to do. If she swam back to shore it would be right into the paws of her abductors but if she stayed it would likely mean her death. Could they really defeat such a thing? If she were honest though, death seemed preferable to being captured again. There was a large group as well, that gave her confidence. They had the numbers on it… maybe, just maybe, they could win.
She watched the others, letting them serve as a distraction for the moment and she slunk through the brush hoping to get in a better position for attack.

The tremors had been felt even in the quietest corners of the abandoned resort. Oath's cyan eyes widened with concern as he woke from the bed he'd been nested with Fairytale, quickly he rose and rushed through the undergrowth, the rhythmic clang of his golden jewelry marking his steps. His heart raced, not with fear, but with a determination born from the thought of protecting the rest of the band that was residing on this island.
When he broke through the dense thicket, he caught sight of his sister Atreyu, her stance steady despite the chaos, and his brother Vayne, resolute and focused. Nearby stood Azriel, Oath's closest friend, whose presence gave him courage. Around them, others had gathered, as they watched the monstrous worm claw its way toward the edge of the island. Its iridescent scales shimmered like a cruel mockery of beauty, and its thrashing appendages sent shivers down Oath’s spine.
Positioning himself beside his siblings, Oath squared his shoulders, his horns catching the moonlight like a fiery crown in the night. For a moment, he closed his eyes and whispered a prayer for those around him to hear.
"Great Kiska, Mother of Light in the Darkness, guide us through this trial. Your children stand united beneath your full moon, seeking the strength to protect what we hold dear. May your light pierce the shadow of this beast, granting us courage where fear lingers."
He paused, shifting his gaze to his siblings and Azriel, as if drawing strength from their presence before he closed his eyes and continued again.
"Cordova, Keeper of War and Peace, lend us your wisdom in this battle. Let your twin faces watch over us, and we may act with the ferocity of war to bring peace. Guide our claws to bring swift justice if we must fight."
Oath's voice softened, his horns catching another faint glimmer of light as he finished. "And to the spirits who walk beside us, grant us your guidance. Let us not falter, even as the ground trembles and the sky darkens."
The ground beneath his paws trembled again, and Oath braced himself, ready to defend his family. There was a quiet fire in his gaze as he said, "Together, we are stronger."
The words weren't just to the Gods - they were a promise to his surrounded family.
Oath has two Red-Tailed Hawks, Icarus and Nyx, that may assumed to be nearby at anytime.
His claws tapped idly against a stone at his foot as he observed the massive being—a grotesque formation of eyes, fangs, and iridescent scales. It gave him the impression of a weapon, crafted by mother nature herself. The monstrosity thrashed its appendages, tipped with barbs and weighed down by dragging vines, as if the very earth birthed it and set it free—a confused newborn. It was spectacular. It moved with some inconceivable purpose, clawing along, moving towards the edge of the island. What could be its goal?
Setekh’s sharp gaze caught a flicker of motion from an approaching wolf, one of the first of many, but unmistakable to his eye—Laniatus. It had been some time since communication with their ravens had been severed, but of course such a capable son had still managed to arrive to the lands unscathed. Setekh let a grin crawl across his maw, glee entering his chest as he watched his son climb atop the creature and begin an assault.
Others soon joined the fray, some mere spectators, some poised for violence. Setekh lingered at the periphery, his amusement glowing in his molten fire gaze.
Surely the creature was capable of defending itself, of attacking—but would it be a being of bloodlust or necessity? He chuckled softly to himself, the low sound carrying an unsettling rhythm as he hummed a tune. The Ivory God’s began to calculate, mind churning, studying the beast’s. Perhaps there was more than animalistic light within its many eyes… Or perhaps it was as dull as cattle. A giant, yes, but a bug nonetheless?
Setekh’s tail swept behind him as he took a few languid steps forward, wondering if he would also get caught within the disaster zone should the beast begin lashing out. He wouldn’t interfere—yet though. For now, he would let Laniatus and the others bleed and tear at the creature. Their efforts would expose its weaknesses, reveal its vulnerabilities, and perhaps—just perhaps—Setekh would step in when it suited him, a savior or a serpent, depending on the need of the moment.
