Bamboo for who? No bamboo for you! [RAID]
04-02-2023, 07:06 PM
It took for-fucking-ever to actually make it to the bamboo maze. Sparrow had led them to the coast near the giant rock circle and from there they came to the maze from the south. Sparrow didn't bother being quiet, she also didn't bother making a ruckus. The bamboo was huge and there were paths that seemed to lead nowhere. "Well, I guess we'll fight out here because we are not gonna get in some narrow hallway shouldering through while trying to fight. That, my kiddos, is how you die." Sparrow looked over her crew and didn't feel entirely hopeful, but what could you do? "Alright, on the count of three, you all call out and see who we can rustle up. One... Two... THREE!" |
Sparrow has a female Harlequin Macaw named Pongolo and a male Capuchin monkey named Friar, and a hairless mushroom tuxedo cat named Beef Sandwich. She also has cat claws... and some weird leg spike things.

The trip down to where the bamboo wolves live had taken a long time. Not that Calico Jack minds. He uses the trip to bond with his fellow yearlings and share stories of what they will do when they win. It helps to keep the momentum up and his heart thumping so that, when they finally reach the maze where the kois live, he is ready to brawl. His mother has them stop where there is a wide-open space to fight and the boy casts his icy blue gaze to her.
With a huge smirk, he waits for her to count down before tipping his head back and howling a challenge to the pack. Jack feels restless as he waits for wolves to appear and he glances over to where Ajax stands. They had both won their fights in the last raid and he feels a little… smug. Loudly, he declares, “I wonder if these guys will be as scared as those Valhalla wolves.” It is directed toward Ajax but meant to be heard by… everyone. Maybe that will help opponents to appear faster.

Hattori knew this day would come, but he was somewhat-very lukewarmly-surprised that it had taken this long. No matter, with Pirates pushing at the edge of his territory it was only natural that Tojo would respond in turn and drive them off. He presumed this wasn't an overly personal affair, that the pirates would raid anyone even if only for the sake of it, but that didn't mean he would not deal with Sparrow himself. Even if only to prove a point.
Hattori gathered his fighters in the main communal space of the Maze, fortunately his eagle companion had seen them coming from a distance and thus they had a moment or so to prepare before the raid was truly underway. He spoke quickly to those who gathered, those who were ready to oust the raiding party.
"Fight as you see fit. And fight well."
And then the group were off, weaving through the corridors and pushing through the thinner bamboo sections to make their way to where the attackers had gathered. They were wise not to venture too far, as Sparrow observed it would have been a deathtrap. They could have easily been ambushed from any angle, gotten lost and turned around, picked off one by one.
Hattori led the charge and was quick to narrow in on a brownish blob ahead, obviously Sparrow and thus his intended target. He offered no warning snarl, the only hint of his approach was the shift in the leaf litter, the muted rustle of his paws thudding against the ground. Even the wind was blowing in the opposite direction, toying with the leaves overhead, but all this masking meant little. The Pirates expected retaliation.
Hattori launched himself forward out of the bamboo, slamming his dire form into the heft that was the Pirate King.

It was not the first time the patchwork man had made his way to southern auster. After his initial encounter with the mysterious ninja pack, Gil secretly chomped at the bit to return. While he would love to duel their leader, he knew Sparrow would be after him first. Their fighters were good, he knew that much, but if he could beat a certain one for the second time in a row, he wouldn't mind. Bringing up the rear of the group, he hung back so that the yearlings could get the first pick of who their rival would be. Ensuring they were well rested after the very long walk down there, Gil could feel the adrenaline begin to pump in him as he saw the bamboo. Would the man show himself? He sure hoped so...

It would not take long for her to assemble with the others. Returning from Sedna's hut to check on her current condition, Tenshi stood amongst the group with a stoic expression. Hanzo's speech was short and to the point. Sweet and simple as some would say. Unlike some, she had no idea who these Pirates were or what she would be up against. She would be ready either way. Moving quietly to go adorn her shoulder pads and shuriken, the mountainous woman made haste toward the outer edges of the bamboo. Peering from the shadows, her brows raised as she noticed it was primarily yearlings and a few adults. While she agreed it was good to train while they were still young, these ones still seemed too young to be going on a raid. Hesitant for a moment, Tenshi glanced at the rest of the Tojo wolves and noticed they moved swiftly. Inhaling a deep breath, she set her gaze on a patchwork yearling whose howl rang into the open air. The expression on his face appeared to be excited as she moved through the shadows, not yet revealing herself. As much as she wanted to charge in and bowl the pup over, she had a different tactic for today. Stepping quickly from the bamboo, Tenshi grabbed a shuriken from her armband and flung it toward the yearling. Aiming at the ground in front of his paws, she nodded her head to initiate an attack from her two snow leopards. They were smaller and faster but just as agile and experienced as she was. The two felines leaped forward on either side of the boy and hoped to take him by surprise and grab onto his back legs. |

Fighting is something Jack loves to do and he yearns to test himself against an opponent. Thankfully he does not have to wait long as, soon after his howl finishes, a strange metal weapon is suddenly flying toward his paws. Nimbly, he leaps backward and puts even more distance between him and the metal object that was aimed at the ground in front of him. Icy blue eyes snap up in the direction that it had out flew from and finds his target. Two shadows materialize on either side of him but he only has eyes for the mountain of a woman.
A smile wiggles his lips upward and he quickly releases two sharp whistles to call his companions to battle. A macaw darts out of the sky to intercept the feline on his left while a smaller house cat attempts to jump on the right leopard’s back. Delight sparkles in Calico Jack’s eyes as he bounds toward the woman, ready to finally fight. He comes at her straight on, lowering his body mass as he swiftly darts toward her. When he is close enough he raises his front end off the ground and attempts to grapple the woman by wrapping his slender forelegs around her shoulders. Teeth seek purchase as, at the same time, he aims a bite at the side of the woman’s face.
Now this is living!

(This post was last modified: 04-03-2023, 03:37 PM by Usagi. Edited 1 time in total.)
The thing about living in a specific environment for a specific time was that one adapted themselves - their mannerisms, behaviors, habits - to that environment. The Pirates lived on a sprawling beach with a large, sunken ship; they were used to having the higher ground, spread out lands, and generally given the advantage of a widespread view of their parties they were attacking. Numbers worked in ther favor; a gaggle of yearlings could certainly amount to the abilities of a single or pair of older, more experienced wolves.
But the thing about traipsing up to an unfamiliar place, is that you lost all that sweet, sweet advantage. They couldn’t temper their arrogance for long in a territory that, if they were foolish enough to enter, their minds would be turned around helplessly in a sea of identical green stalks.
Usagi took advantage of that, all too well. The scent of the fucking pirates barely reached his nostrils before grabbing his now-sharpened sword and his companions before effortlessly weaving through the stalks towards the source on the southern end of the maze, his small but muscular form not even grazing the bamboo as he whizzed by with a raging white-hot aura surrounding him.
He was focused on one man, and one man only. The fucker who’d snapped his ankle and Hattori had fractured his in return. An ankle for an ankle, it was; but Usagi was no longer satisfied with that. The way his chartreuse gaze almost became a bright lime-colored hue with anger, the way his ears pinned flat against his skull and his snout wrinkled in the threat of a full-on snarl told anyone besides that dappled man to step back. Gods helps anyone that so much as touched his furious path.
Rapid pawsteps dashed with quick, precise strides, less rabbit and more predator. Eyes were locked on the dappled Pirate with an intensity unmatched; this was personal. The Hohei, double-bladed sword clenched in his maw, used the momentum of his calculated sprint to launch himself upwards, hind legs propelling him off a sturdy stalk of bamboo like a springboard. He aimed to launch himself head-on at the man, and as he landed on the ground - or in a way that could sharply shoulder-check the guy, either way - he aimed to briskly swipe his blades at him, one side and the other, in particular aiming for the man’s legs which hadn’t been covered in some form of armer. The blades being sharp as they were, a toe could easily be lopped off like a hot knof ethrough butter - but all the more painful. Eyes locked on his foe with calculated precision. Maybe the swipes would force the Pirate to step back, shuffle around but miss. Or maybe it would actually hit. A missing toe never hurt anybody, and he was yearning for a fight.

It would not take much time for Tojo-Kai to answer their challenge. Right away two dire sized wolves burst from the bamboo toward Sparrow and Calico Jack. Size was not always everything, but it had its advantages. Were most of their wolves that size? Gil continued to assess the wall of bamboo as he drew closer to it. He was about to take off in a different direction when the wind shifted. The drum of paws against packed dirt and an all too familiar scent made the fur along his spine bristle.
“I knew you’d come for me,” the man seethed through his teeth as he let down his fangs from their hiding spot. Twisting his neck until it cracked and rolling his shoulders to loosen his muscles, he spread his paws slightly for a better stance. Pulling back his lips into a snarling smirk as he flattened his ears against his skull, he held his ground as he watched his foe approach.
What he hadn’t expected this time was for the other blob of a shadow to leap up onto the bamboo itself. Surprised at the action, he wondered how long the little twerp had been practicing that move. As his opponent propelled through the air directly at him, swinging a double blade, Gil tilted his chin down to protect his throat. As their shoulders collided, Gil knew he had him right where he wanted him. Before the guy could hit the ground, Gil struck out like a snake snatching a rat and aimed to grab onto the man’s paw. Even as the sharp blade struck him on the sides, he merely heard the clang of his chain metal shirt in retaliation.

The seconds rolled into motion as fangs snapped through the tarsals lf his middle toe, snapping it clean off. Adrenaline coarsed through his veins, with Usagi barely registering that the Pirate had basically amputated his toe. There was too much to focus on, and the heat of the battle acted as a painkiller as his blade hit metal, and their shoulders collided with a resounding thud. All four paws now on the ground, Usagi used the momentum of his landing, purposefully twisting his body around to face the Pirate again, breaths deep but not quite ragged. He didn’t even notice the rivets of blood trickling from the empty socket in his foot, soaking into the dirt. Readying his blade again, Usagi decided to aim for areas the man didn’t cover with armor or other shields. His chartruese gaze sharpened with an intensity and focus that wasn’t easily broken. He aimed to rise just enough up on his hind legs to gain momentum, aiming to swiftly fall forward and swipe his blade towards the calico wolf’s neck and chest. He then aimed to use the foot the Pirate had just maimed to pivot himself in one fell swoop and jut it out with utmost intensity, aiming to kick his opponent harshly in the throat. Knock the wind out of him. Perhaps stain his mottled coat with blood, at that. It was starting to become a rather violent fight - but this was what the Pirate should have expected when they arrogantly sauntered into pack territory, no? Áskell was patrolling along the bay when his magpie had flown to him in a flurry. A band of strange, well-armed wolves were approaching the border. He swiftly raced back to the maze, meeting up with Hanzō and a number of his pack mates. As the slipped through the maze he gathered his armor and weaponry as well as Ari so he could arrive fully prepared. The macaque loped along next to him as they met the pirates. Immediately fights started to break out. The initial arrivals were taken and Áskell opted to hold back for a moment, knowing there were more pirates sure to arrive. Kári took to the air to survey while Ari stood by his side ready for action.

Sparrow’s words stuck with her. While the Pirate King didn’t necessarily dissuade her from her endeavors of wanting to bring back a trophy, the woman made sure to mention it was normally only because those they were fighting tried to take something… it was something that Rivin would keep in mind but she wasn’t necessarily sure it would prevent her from making an attempt. Sure, whoever she was fighting would likely have more skill, but the idea of losing a body part didn’t scare her. After all, her father was Ignis. His own scars and lack of limbs were a testament to the battles he’d survived she was sure that he had won his fair share of them too. The girl took a small detour, gathering Lark and Feng, and they were off. It would be her first chance to test the benefit of the leg wraps she wore, and possibly her dagger. Her green eyes were shining. As much as she longed to win, she would take everything she could from this experience regardless of what happened. She’d follow the rest of them, lagging behind a little. Not out of cowardice, but curiosity. Auster was… strange. Interesting. They had come quite a ways to get to where they were. Rivin drew in a breath, and, as the sounds of fighting were heard ahead, the girl quickened her pace. Her comrades and the koi wolves were already getting into it… and ahh, it seemed there was a male that wasn’t engaged yet on the other side. Rivin smirked, the yearling setting herself up so that there was about six feet of distance between them. He likely saw her and her companions approach – it wasn’t as if she was trying to be sneaky and hide herself. A grin crossed onto her maw and she tilted her head slightly to the side. “Aren’t you a pretty one?” On her left Feng, her wolverine, practically danced on his paws, ready for blood. On her right, Lark the bobcat, stood ready at her side, gazing at the opponent that Rivin was sizing up. He wasn’t the biggest opponent, but he looked seasoned. He had fangs of some sort, a helmet, and something around his paws she assumed aided him in battle. She could see a companion with him as well, and, if her hunch was correct, the bird lingering in the sky above them could very well be his as well. “I guess it was rude of us to come by without an announcement… but while we’re here...” Rivin slipped into a battle stance. “Why don’t we make it interesting?” Her grin widened, a wilder look entering her green eyes. She could feel adrenaline rushing as her claws dug into the soil. “This is your home, right? Show me why I should remember the koi wolves!” Rivin challenged. She’d give him the first move. Perhaps she’d better see an opening if she did that. "Talk," 'Think.' |

His teeth clamped down as soon as his tongue felt the texture of the pad of his toe. Firmly holding on until the toe had been severed, he smiled around the flow of blood trickling down his lips. This surely would be sufficient revenge after the snapped ankle he had received from his opponent's leader. Careful not to spit the toe out since he would keep it for a trophy, Gil pulled away to prepare himself for the next onslaught of attacks. His shoulders were already bloodied from the sharp blades and he could feel the bruise deepening in his muscles. Truthfully, he had felt worse and didn't shy away as he met those chartreuse eyes.
Instead, he pulled his smirk farther back so that the decapitated toe could show between his teeth. Taunting his foe to come back in for another go, Gil watched as the furious shadow launched himself toward him. Holding his ground with paws firmly in the dirt, he watched as the blade came swiping back at his chest. Due to the blade's sharp edges, the cuts were painless at the moment. There was too much adrenaline surging within him as he watched once more the man make the same mistake as last time. As Usagi reached out to kick him in the throat, Gil let the toe drop from his muzzle and reached once more to grab ahold of the ankle that aimed for him.

The longer she looks at the boy, the more she wonders if he has koi blood within him. The mottled coat is more patterned like that of Raijin than either of the adults accompanying them. Tenshi almost wants to stop so she can swoop him up and take him hostage. Could she take him hostage? Would he not be better off living here within Tojo-Kai where he could be raised with dignity and respect? Yet, she had her own life to deal with and knew she wouldn't have the time to be kidnapping pups. She blinks a few times to bring her back to reality as the yearling's companions come in to answer her own. A bird swoops in to distract one and a smaller cat onto the back of the other. Ah, so he had come prepared. Tenshi is amused and impressed as her focus goes back to the boy. Holding her ground just in front of the bamboo as he bounds gleefully toward her, she readies herself. Her ears pulled back, hackles raised, tail aligned with her spine, and her head slightly lowered. Tenshi isn't surprised when he lifts up and reaches his paws out to try and grapple around her shoulders. She lets him as she feels the warmth of his soft fur and tensed muscles press against her chest. Her own teeth reach out to grab ahold of his cheek as his own teeth grab hers. Using her heavier form to try and lift herself up into the air, Tenshi aims to body slam the youngster into the ground if everything works in her favor. |

Usagi barely realized his own toe had been severed until the calcio idiot brandished it in his bloodied teeth. Well, what was done was done - and personally, at least in the moment when both of them were too adrenaline-high to feel pain - he’d preferred a lost toe than a smashed ankle.
Satisfaction surged in his veins, roared in his chest when his blade swiped back with flying beads of blood. Nevermind that they were both numb to the sensations. It would hurt like hell later, and as he glanced at the cuts he’d made to the Pirate’s chest and shoulders, the impact was enough to let him shake off the decapitated toe.
His own swipes proved to be an equal revenge; a skillfull hit of his blade severed one of his opponent’s own toes - how ironic. Instead of holding it in his mouth (which he thought was disgusting, quite frankly), his Akita rushed in and quickly snatched the Pirate’s decapitated toe in its maw, running off with tail wagging.
They clashed, they brandished their teeth and bumped shoulders. No doubt their fight was one of the more bloody ones here today; the impact of the severed toes left splotches of crimson on Usagi’s (remaining) toes and chest. His gaze still remained hot and fiery, and as the Pirate reached for the ankle he’d jutted out for a kick, he let out a ‘tch’ in exasperation. The ankle-grabbing was beginning to be a tired move. He wasn’t falling for it, and quite frankly, one toe removed was enough. A fractured ankle wasn’t necessary, nor would he give the bastard the satisfaction.
Swiftly, Usagi pulled his ankle up higher - thankfully his agile limbs were flexible and stretching his leg up high wasn’t a problem. The snapping of teeth whizzed past his foot as he swung it back quickly behind him, a blaze lit in his gaze. He was enraged. Nearly off his head in a white-hot anger that practically lit his entire body in a glow - if that were truly possible.
Still, he didn’t snarl, didn’t show any emotion except through his actions. He was fury personified. Sword readied in his maw, he abandoned his kicking in favor of aiming to pivot his body so he was perpendicular to the Pirate; he swung his sword with one blade tilted upwards swiftly, as if trying to force the mottled wolf to jump back if he wished to avoid yet another cut - particularly around his crimson-covered chest - and also aimed to force his body forward and slam one side of his face into the Pirate’s side of his face as well. A face-check, if you will; whether it made a resounding impact or not, he didn’t truly care. But he wasn’t snapping his ankle again, lest he wanted another jab of his blade.

There is something in the female’s eyes that makes the boy hesitate for a moment. It is something akin to recognition followed by deep thought. But Calico Jack does not time to dwell on it as his companions’ swoop into the fray, giving him a clear line of sight on the mountain of woman. Joyfully, the boy bounds toward her, the heat of battle erasing the hesitation of mere seconds before.
His grapple is successful and his bite lands but she retaliates and bite his own check. A snarl is ripped from his throat as pain flares to life but a smile never strays from his lips. His opponent lifts her front end and attempts to end the fight by slamming him to the ground. Calico’s lighter frame cannot hold up against her weight so he tries to turn the outcome to his favor. Shifting his back paws slightly outward, Calico Jack attempts to hook his front legs underneath the woman’s elbows. With that, he attempts to pull her toward him and lay her flat out on the ground to claim victory.
Whatever the outcome, he had fun!

Tachi listened as Hattori spoke, his attention catching on the phrase: fight as you see fit. He hadn't really gotten into any fights with outsiders, but he'd done enough training to be more than confident enough to step out of the bamboo and watch the fights unfold. Hope someone would be dumb enough to want to fight him. Tojo fights were civilised, they were all family and friends here, but Tachi could already see that wasn't the case here. His half brother Usagi was clearly out for blood, with the way he was snapping and clashing against the dappled pirate guy. Was there anyone for him to fight though, the pirate raiding party was smaller than he would have thought.

Sparrow had just turned to have her little tiniest give off a good resounding howl when she was clobbered from the side. The wind left her lungs with a soft oof, but the depend this of two bodies colliding was much louder. Sparrow stumbled away briefly from the force, a wry smirk growing on her maw, "Good to see you too, Terry."
Once she found her footing, she took only a brief moment to glance the man up and down. Yup, same old Tory as always, complete with the utter lack of fun or excitement in his gaze. Maybe she could make him feel something.
Sparrow launched right back at him, seeking to latch onto one of his nice little horns. She knew they weren't likely to break off, and she wasn't going to be too hard with them- in all reality, she just wanted to chomp them just a little to see how they compared to prey animal horns.

It had been a long ass trip down to the pack of ninja koi that he and his siblings would be facing. His father wouldn't be joining them this time around, much to Diablo's disappointment. While he wanted to make his father proud, he was half glad his father wasn't here to witness in the off chance he ended up losing his first real fight. Diablo followed quietly behind the others, keeping his siblings in his sights. To his knowledge, this was their first real fight, too. Though he couldn't speak for them, of course. The introverted youth didn't know if they had gone to pick fights with others, but this was their first raid, too. Taking a deep breath, Diablo hung back as the koi wolves began to emerge from the bamboo, and when the others got themselves into a brawl, Diablo zeroed in on someone that had arrived. Closer to his age, about his same size, and although Diablo had no clue what the experience of the other was, he figured he could take him on. Like a shadow, Diablo raced towards him, seeking to come in head on, head lowered as he sought to headbutt the male head on with his horns. If he was lucky, the bristles along the back of his neck would prick and prod his would-be opponent. He snapped his left paw-hand open, seeking to grab onto Tachi's foreleg and pull it forward in an effort to unbalance him and pull him closer, and with luck, aid in yanking the other into his headbutt.
