It was a spooky morning. The sun had just barely started to peek over the horizon, coloring the sky a peculiar shade of dark pink-orange. The chilly night air was struggling to be broken up by the rising sun, a dense layer of fog now cloaking the moor. It added an eerie atmosphere to the morning, and Kaija was already feeling a bit on edge. The girl crept through the field, moving over grass coated in dew - only a few degrees short of freezing into ice crystals. In some spots she saw little shards of ice, on the taller tendrils of grass that reached taller than the rest. The winter here was not nearly as harsh as it was in the rest of the lands, but still she found herself longing for some relief from the cold. It was hard to really go far from home when she didn't know how cold it was gonna be or if she might get stuck somewhere in the snow.

God, having to call for help because she got frozen somewhere sounded embarrassing. Might as well stay close to home, at least for the most part. But Kaija couldn't just do nothing - today especially she felt like there was some trouble she could get into, before everyone woke up. Her mom was definitely asleep and she hadn't seen her siblings stir when she'd snuck off so she figured she had some time to come up with something to entertain her. She just didn't know what yet. She trudged on, sniffing over the clusters of plants and grass that she passed, clearly intent on getting up to something.

Lee was out early in the morning, the sunlight just beginning to peek above the horizon and light the dark sky, she was on a mission and she was determined to find some herbs that she could salvage now that it looked like the winter chill was not going to be leaving any time soon. She still had plenty of stock in her den but she knew that her supply would not last forever. The russet brindle girl moved swiftly deeper into the moor with a small frown on her delicate features when the morning dew clung to her fur and the cold air numbed her toes and paws. Lee was certainly not thrilled with the extended winter that the land seemed to have planned for them. Laoise finally slowed to a casual walk when she reached the place she had gathered herbs before the winter freeze and started her search, hoping that at least something would be trying to grow through the cold.

She was deeply focused on her task but after several minutes in, the russet and charcoal yearling started to get a weird feeling that something was not quite right. At first she brushed it off with a flick of her dark tail but after a few breaths, the girl finally lifted her head to look around. Laoise did not see anything out of the ordinary as she scanned the area, though the fog was thick and hard to see through. She shrugged a shoulder and turned her eyes to the ground once more before she remembered her dad saying that she should use her nose not just her eyes. So Lee lifted her nose to the air, snuffling, sneezing once at the moisture in the air that tickled her nose but finally capturing a scent. "Kaija?" Lee said in confusion, the pup was far from the den and she did not smell the girl's mother nearby. Abandoning her mission, Lee turned and quickly tracked down the girl, finding the pup sniffing and exploring but obviously intent on finding something to get into. "Hey, what are you doing out here in this cold without your Mama?" Lee said when she neared the grey toned pup, a russet brow raised in question as Lee tried to mimic her mother's stern but amused expression. She was older than Kaija so she could act motherly and be nosey right?

For a long while Kaija trudged along, over partially frozen grass and vegetation, looking like she was on a mission to get somewhere. And she was - she just wasn't sure where yet, but she was sure she'd figure it out as she went. More than once she felt a powerful shiver wrack her body, making her second guess her decision to come out. Maybe lounging around with her siblings might be better today? It'd definitely be warmer if nothing else. She let out a shuddering sigh as the sound of someone close by caught her attention, and a second later she was being called out to. Instantly Kaija forgot all about the cold and her plans and anything else and made a beeline for Laoise, grinning and wagging her tail wildly.

If the tusked girl had any idea that she might be in trouble, or being scolded, she made no sign of it. Justice's parenting style was... well, a bit different. She and her brothers were free to roam as they pleased. They'd only get into trouble if they did something out of their control and had to call someone for help. Independence had been ingrained in her since the day she'd been born and she thought very little of it. "Hi! Who are you?" She'd seen her around but couldn't remember her name, which happened more often than she cared to admit when it came to wolves within the pack. Kaija was a lot of things but observant wasn't one of them - she found her mind often moved too quickly to latch on to information the way it should. "I was just out exploring. Looking for an adventure. Got any ideas?" She grinned mischievously at the thought. "My mama's sleeping. She doesn't like when I bother her for stupid things, so she'd be glad I'm letting her sleep," Kaija answered, entirely convinced that what she was saying was true - and it totally was. A big nod helped emphasize her point.
